У дикій природі тримаються великими зграями і живуть в основному на тропічних деревах. Цей птах досягає до 60 см в довжину, в основному завдяки гарним і довгим пір'ям хвоста. При належному утриманні олександрійські папуги можуть прожити до 40 років. "Александрійці" пофарбовані переважно в зелений колір, навколо шиї мають чорно-рожеві кільця. Також цих папуг відрізняє великий яскраво-червоний дзьоб. Александрійскій папуга має спокійний і доброзичливий характер, але може так статися що він прив'яжеться до однієї людини. Цей вид папуг відрізняється хорошим інтелектом і здатністю говорити.
